May 11 – As discussed below, the NBBA intends to run in-person summer basketball camps that will be held indoors or outdoors, depending on the public health situation. Given current uncertainty, we are targeting to make details and registration available by June 14, at least for July. Virtual camps may be another option, as was done in 2020.

The NBBA is optimistic that, at a minimum, non-contact indoor basketball training will be allowed over the summer, hopefully leading to a resumption of near-normal basketball programming by September.

On this basis, we are pleased to announce plans to run indoor day and evening summer camps over an 8-week period from July 5 to August 27, 2021, followed by a week of pre-tryout competitive evening camps. Camps will use the gyms at Ottawa Christian School (for girls) and Redeemer Christian High School (for boys).

Summer camps will be offered for girls 8-11, girls 12-14, boys 8-11, and boys 12-14. Each camp will have two coaches and be limited to 20 players, unless the public health situation requires/warrants lower limits. Players will be divided into two groups, with one group per coach.

  • Day camps will be weekly half-day camps, with an option to register for morning and afternoon camps. Week 1 will be for ages 8-11, week 2 for ages 12-14, etc.
  • Evening camps will be 4-week camps held one night per week, with ages 8-11 on Tuesdays, ages 12-14 on Thursdays. August will be a repeat of July.

Pre-tryout competitive camps will run from 6 to 9 pm every weeknight during the week of August 30 for girls 11-12, girls 13-14, boys 11-12, and boys 13-14. Time slots at each gym will be 6 to 7:30 for ages 11-12, 7:30 to 9 pm for ages 13-14.

Every camp will follow all guidelines set by public health and Ontario Basketball. On the chance that indoor camps are not possible this summer, our contingency plan is to offer outdoor day and evening summer camps (likely with 3 camps during the day instead of half-day camps), and pre-tryout competitive camps would be cancelled or deferred until tryouts are possible.

More information and registration details will be provided in May.
