Dear Nepean Blue Devils Basketball Club Members,

As Board members we hope that you and your family are in good health and are coping with the social and economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As you are probably aware all provincial youth basketball programming has been cancelled for the remainder of the season – which in turn means that the Nepean Blue Devils Basketball programming for the 2019-2020 season has come to an end.

While our season has been cut short it was still another excellent year for the club. The 2019 Toronto Raptors’ championship brought unprecedented growth to the sport throughout Ontario and our club was no exception. This year, at almost every age group, we experienced a record number of kids playing our sport. In addition to accommodating more kids we were able to enhance our programming in a number of areas – especially at the younger age groups where we were able to introduce weekly development sessions, mid-year festivals and enhanced league play. This growth did not come without challenges as we struggled at times to effectively communicate and coordinate the various activities. This is an area we will continue to work on over the summer so that we can accommodate all the children in our community who want to play basketball while at the same time delivering excellent programming to our members and community.

I would also like to take this time to thank all of our coaches, managers and countless other volunteers who helped out over the last year. These volunteers put in countless hours both on and off the court to ensure your children have a safe environment to both learn the sport and build lasting friendships.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic we are unable to make any firm plans regarding our Annual General Meeting, or our summer or fall programming. We will continue to communicate with you as we receive more information. In the meantime – stay safe and take care.
